It uses products based on natural substances like sulphur, copper, Bacillus thuringiensis (a mixture with a bacterial origin) and active principles that are taken from plants with insecticide properties. Organic farming has been practised for thousands of years already and it is the original type of agriculture.

Soil management, weed management, controlling other organisms and genetic modification are the methods of organic farming. But for genetic modification, some organic farmers question the rationale behind the ban on the use of genetically engineered seed because they view this kind of biotechnology consistent with organic principles.  Soil management concerns all operations, practices and treatment used to protect soil and enhance its performance. Organic weed management promotes weed suppression rather than weed elimination by enhancing crop competition and phytotoxic effects on the weeds. Organic farmers try cultural, biological, mechanical, physical and chemical tactics to manage weed without synthetic herbicides. Aside from weed, controlling other organisms that cause problems on organic farms include arthropods (like insects, mites), nematodes, fungi and bacteria. A wide range of Integrated Pest Management practices are used by organic farmers to prevent pests and diseases. This are crop rotation and nutrient management; sanitation to remove pest habitat; provision of habitat for beneficial organisms; selection of pest-resistant crops and animals; crop protection using physical barriers like row covers; and crop diversification through companion planting or establishment of polycultures. Sometimes organic farmers depend on biological pest control; the use of beneficial organisms is to reduce pest populations. Minute pirate bugs, big-eyed bugs, and to a lesser extent ladybugs are example of beneficial insects in which eat a wide range of pests. If ever these practices is not enough to prevent or control pests an organic farmer can apply a pesticide but a naturally occurring pesticides are allowed for use on organic farms and still synthetic substances are prohibited.

The advantage of organic farming is it maintains the life of the soil, not only for today generation but also for the future generations. Because of organic farming water pollution is reduced. When it rains the water in the fields that contains chemicals get drained into the rivers that pollutes the bodies of water. Because organic farming does not use chemicals or synthetic water pollution reduce. It also helps in building richer soil that helps in plant growth. This is obtained by rotating crops. Food tastes better that are organically grown and the life of organically grown plants are longer than those plants that are cultivated by traditional methods. The disadvantage for organic farming is the low productivity, organically produced food is expensive and organic farmers grow their crops depending on the season.

For me foods that are grown organically is the best even thou it is expensive. Not only it is good for our body but also it helps our environment.
